The Nozawa Onsen Dosojin Fire Festival, held annually on January 15th, is one of Japan’s top three fire festivals. Dating back to 1863, it features a dramatic battle where villagers try to set an 18-meter beech wood shrine on fire to pray for a good harvest, health, and fortune.
